Title: A Ray of Sunshine
It was one of those days where the clouds hung low and heavy, draping the little town of Willowridge in a grey silence. Everything felt dull — the skies, the streets, even Mrs. Hawthorne’s bakery, usually brimming with sweet scents and laughter, felt unusually quiet.
In a modest little house tucked behind the ivy-laced lane, sat 11-year-old Mia by her bedroom window. Her eyes, once full of curiosity, now mirrored the gloom outside. Ever since her best friend had moved away and her father had started working longer hours, Mia’s days seemed to stretch endlessly, marked only by the ticking of the clock.
That morning, something changed.
As she sat drawing lazy circles on the foggy windowpane, a sliver of golden light broke through the clouds. A single ray of sunshine streamed in and landed on the tiny sunflower pot sitting by the sill — a gift from her friend before she left. The light made the yellow petals seem to glow, like a little sun of its own.
Mia leaned in closer. It was the first time she’d really looked at the flower in weeks. Something about that warm beam of sunshine, lighting up the yellow petals, stirred something in her chest — a flicker of hope, of remembrance.
She opened the window.
The warmth of the sun kissed her face gently. She closed her eyes and smiled, a real smile. The air smelled like fresh earth, and the world outside didn't seem quite so dull anymore. The sunlight seemed to whisper, "It’s okay to feel sad, but don’t forget — I’m still here."
That afternoon, Mia decided to go outside with her sketchbook. She sat beneath the oak tree in her backyard and began to draw. She sketched her sunflower, the sunshine, her friend’s smiling face, and for the first time in a while, she didn’t feel so alone.
From that day on, whenever life felt a bit too grey, Mia would look out for that little ray of sunshine. It reminded her that even on the darkest days, light finds a way to sneak in. A little warmth, a little golden glow — and suddenly, the world doesn’t feel so heavy.
Because sometimes, all it takes is a small sliver of sunshine to light up even the gloomiest heart...
